Great to be back in Atlanta...

The Atlanta Braves were supposed to play their last game in Florida on Monday versus the Washington Nationals. But that game never happened due to rain. With the rain out, and no need for a make up, Braves headed back to Atlanta and will host the Minnesota Twins tonight and Wednesday at Turner Field. As far as I can remember, the Braves have always closed out spring training games with a pair of home games that do not count.

Great thing this spring is the Braves came out of spring training rather healthy. Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez really wanted to rest third baseman Chipper Jones, who is coming off a knee injury from last season. And at the same time have him play a little to knock off some of the off season rust. Braves finally have a first baseman that they can groom for many years, and not just have a guy to fill the gap for a year or so. First baseman Freddie Freeman has come up through Atlanta's minor leagues, and finally got a chance to play some at the end of last year. It is his position to lose, and he has not disappointed this spring. So far he has hit .254, two homers, and 7 RBI's. Eric Hinske will back him up. And going into the regular season, one of the hottest bats on the team is right fielder Jason Heyward, hitting a cool .372. A little sarcastic there, I know. The only player on the team batting better is Jones, hitting .407.

Braves open the regular season on the road in our Nation's capital against these same Nationals this Thursday, March 31.
