A nine billion dollar industry, the greatest fan base in America, and a sport that is on top of its game. Then the meltdown came. What went wrong? Why couldn't the two sides meet on an agreement? It seems like in all sports, and now in football, that it has turned too much into a business and away from a kids sport. Okay, I'm not saying that you shouldn't want money, we all need money to survive and provide for our families. But as I have said before, and I'll say it again, come on guys. There are people out there, me included, living paycheck to paycheck. I understand the 18-game season being a problem. With the wear and tear on the body, I would understand the players would want to have better health benefits, even after retirement. But don't be too greedy about the money. Understand that you are doing a job that most people only dream of. With the money most players make per game, I could live off of very comfortably.
But I do completely understand about the issue of a rookie pool of money. You have to earn the money you get. You shouldn't be earning millions of dollars before you even step out onto an NFL field. Or making more than a veteran of five years or more. Split the rookie pool money up evenly and earn your way to millions.
There shouldn't be any real debate among any of this. It should all be common sense.
Both sides not coming to an agreement will hurt the fanbase as well. You will have to earn the trust back from the fans. I am a loyal football fan that watches every game of my team. But just like in other sports that go into lockouts, it will take a while for the stadiums around the NFL to fill back up to capacity. So if the CBA comes to an agreement soon for another four years, whats not to say this won't happen again.
So guys, come to a compromise that everyone can agree upon and lets get back to playing the sport that gets everyone pumped up each fall. It really shouldn't be all that hard with all the devastation happening in our world today. The sport of football started as a kid's game. So owners and players of the NFL, the next time you see children throwing a football around, remember back when it was just a game.
