Nike taking over uniform design...

A new era for the NFL is about to unfold before our eyes on April 3rd as Nike unveils the new combat uniforms for all 32 teams. It's a transformation that the NFL has never seen before, and it's listed as time for a change, just growing with the times. Reebok use to be the sponsor of NFL uniforms, with a more of a throwback uniform look. Reebok's uniforms were more plain than flashy. Those uniforms were more like 'bring your lunch pale and hit them in the mouth.' Uniforms that were meant to get dirty as I would say.

Gone are the days of former Commissioner Paul Tagliabue and NFL Players Union, the late Chief Gene Upsaw, where it was legal to hit someone as hard as they can, hoping they don't get up. And in are the days of current Commissioner Roger Goodell, where a legal hit back in the day, draws a fine and/or suspension in today's game. So in are the new uniforms, that if they get dirty, a penalty will follow. No, not really, but it sure does seem that way.
Nike took over sponsorship of the college uniforms in 2009. Most notably are the University of Oregon Ducks football uniforms. My home team the University of Georgia Bulldogs incorporated their new combat uniforms this year against Boise State Broncos.

So my take on the new uni's it this. I'm a throwback kind of guy. I like the old school look. But the NCAA and NFL look at it as the game has gotten younger and quicker, so flashy is better. There's nothing wrong with that, it's just a matter of preference.
In my next post I will show different uniform combination's that have been floating out there for the Atlanta Falcons. Probably all of them are fake, but it is fun to imagine what the new uniform will look like. And again, the new uniform might not change at all or much. After all, fans of the game do not cheer for the players of the team, because players change teams so much with free agency. Fans cheer for the uniforms. Think about it?
