Two hits earns the win...

With only two hits in the game last night versus the fish, coming off the bats of shortstop Alex Gonzalez and left fielder Martin Prado, the Braves were able to down the Florida Marlins in Miami 1-0. This pulls the Braves record to 33-28. The win also helped the Braves move ahead of the fish from the third spot to the second spot by one game in the tight race known as the NL east division. The Marlins fell to 31-28. Both teams are still chasing the Phillies (36-25) for the first place lead. The Phillies lost last night 2-6 to the LA Dodgers.

The Braves are still struggling to produce hits, which means lack of runs crossing the plate. But in last night's game, only one hit was needed. And ex-Marlin, Gonzalez produced the lone run for Atlanta when he blasted a homerun over the left field wall in the top of the fourth inning. Seems Gonzalez has been up and down at the plate this year, but is still hitting a quiet .263.

With only one run needed for the win, Braves starting pitcher Tommy Hanson finished it off with a gem at the mound going six inning. Hanson strengthened his record to 7-4, with an era of 2.59, striking out six while only giving up two hits. All-Star hopeful, closer Greg Kimbrell came in in the ninth to finish off the game and earn his 18th save, with an era of 2.70

Next game for the Braves is tonight versus these same Marlins at Sun Life Field. Game time is set for 7:10pm.
Another win for the Braves will at least lock up a series win for the Braves (2 out of 3) and earn the Braves another game up on the Marlins.
