Is it our time...?

Ok, so I believe much of America was doubting that the Atlanta Falcons would pull off a win last Thursday night as they hosted the New Orleans Saints. Even with opposite records, the Saints have seemed to have the Falcons number in recent years. But extra incentive to go 11-1, earn a playoff spot, and soon wrap up the number 1 seed had the Falcons all geared up. And that's exactly what the Falcons did. They took the lead early and didn't look back, ending their losing streak o the Saints in a 23-13 win. It wasn't pretty at times, Falcons wins never are pretty. But all that matters is the W!!!! And with a little help from the elder (Peyton )Mannning, the Denver Broncos defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, which allowed the Falcons to capture the division title. The Falcons have a five game lead on the Bucs with four games to play. I don't believe the Falcons will be complacent with just the division, they want #1 seed status. And with four games remaining, they will work to that goal to have home field advantage throughout the playoffs.

Now this has not always worked to the Falcons advantage. They also won the #1 seed in 2010 with a 13-3 record, but lost to the #6 seed Green Bay Packers in the Georgia Dome. But this is a different team with a different offense and defense. Then, the team was just happy to be there, now the team knows what to push for. Then, the coaches were just easy going with a game plan, but it didn't look like it from the fan's eye. Now, there is a game plan that is followed, and adjustments made at halftime when needed.

And if I had anything to really do with it, I would say let the media keep bashing the Falcons as the worst 11-1 team in NFL history. Whenever the Falcons are the top story, they try to swing it around to portray that the Falcons have many things wrong compared to other top teams. I got so bothered last Thursday because all I wanted to do was watch the Falcons, win or lose, but just watch a football game. But overshadowing that was the media making a bigger deal about the Saints' bus getting egged. Get over it media, worse things to teams and fans happen each Sunday. But just because it was the media's darling, the Saints, a big deal had to be said about it. It is testimony to our coaching staff how they have coached this team to professionalism, and to stay focused. Falcons don't do a lot of talking like other teams, they leave that all up to the play on the field.

As much as I want to talk bad about other teams, I won't, because I am also a professional. Just let karma take over at times is what I say. The Falcons could wrap up the #1 seed this Sunday against the Panthers at Carolina. But a lot of other things have to happen. To make it easy I will say that if Atlanta wins Sunday, and all the teams that hold a playoff spot right now if the playoffs were to start today would have to lose. But all that's not going to happen. But hopefully a Falcons win though. Kickoff is set for this Sunday at 1:00pm est. RISE UP Atlanta!!!! Don't forget to follow me on twitter @makirkley.
