Restful timing...

This is an awesome time for me right now. In all phases of my life. Love my beautiful wife and awesome, precious daughter. But this is the first time in my life that I, and for that matter, first time in Atlanta Falcons history that they go into the bye week undefeated. The Falcons sit at 6-0 atop the NFC South division with a 3.5 game lead over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. I realize the Falcons have only played the Carolina Panthers in divisional play, and that lead could shrink. But 3.5 game lead in a 16-game season is huge. It's huge for the Falcons' confidence because they want to ride this unbeaten streak as long as they can. An I will agree, they probably will not go the entire season undefeated, but it still feels good.

The sign of a good team is when you can win pretty, win ugly, and also win big. The Falcons have done all three. QB Matt Ryan, is well, "Matty Ice" when he is under pressure. So far this year when the Falcons have had the ball last and down or tied, he has come through. The Carolina game, down my one, Ryan drove his offense down the field 99 yards where K Matt Bryant booted the Falcons to a 30-28 win and move to 4-0. The most impressive stat for the game was the Falcons got the ball with .48 seconds left on the clock and zero timeouts. Now that's clutch play!!! And also this past game versus the Oakland Raiders, CB Asante Samuel took a pick six back for a go ahead TD and a 20-13 lead. But after a quick score by the Raiders, and just under 2-minutes on the clock, Ryan had his offense clicking again. Key catches by TE Tony Gonzalez set up Bryant's 55-yard kick through the uprights and a 6-0 record with a 23-20 win.

So to sum up this post, I can actually go into this bye watching the other games, and not worry about the Falcons' position. Falcons are the only undefeated team in the NFL so far in the 2012 season, and they sit atop this week's power rankings, and probably will at least for the next couple of weeks, or until they lose. So win or lose for the other teams in the NFC South, no worries for Atlanta this week. They still own the top spot for the south. Here is the standings through week 7.
