Ugly from very beginning...

Well, coming into the game versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, I thought it was going to be a tough, fought out game as it usually is when both of these teams meet. And it was just that, but the Falcons were on the back end of the score. Bucs ended up winning 16-13 to up their record to 2-1, and Falcons fell to 1-2. The Bucs practically handed the game to the Falcons, but the Falcons did not bite, and could not take a go ahead score late in the fourth.

The number one position on a football team that gets the team going is the offensive line. We have heard it over and over, the way the O-line goes, is the way the offense goes. It all starts with the offensive line. In       yesterday's game, QB Matt Ryan was getting hit from left to right. The line is just not protecting Ryan like it did last year. I don't see how losing one player to free agency (Harvey Dahl to St. Louis) would make that much difference. But I guess it does. Dahl brought a sense of nastiness to the line, that is definitely lacking in this 2011 season so far.

If you looked at the stats from yesterday's game, you would definitely think Atlanta won, but not the case. Ryan was 26-47 for 330 with 1 TD and 1 interception. Great numbers except for the pick, and Ryan also fumbled the ball twice. And no QB needs to throw the ball almost 50 times a game, that means the running game is not going well. And it wasn't. Turner carried the ball 15 times for 20 yards. That's just not good. A very one sided offense, and you can't win that way in the NFL.

The defense held it's own, only giving up 16 points and intercepting Bucs QB Josh Freeman two times. But when it came down to the end they faltered. The Falcons D had the Bucs held on a 4th and 3, hoping to get the ball back and try for a field goal or go ahead TD. But the Bucs tried drawing the Falcons offsides on a hard count, and it worked. Game over!!! Now that hardly ever happens, but it did with the Falcons because of a lack of self discipline.

Okay, I'm not giving up on my team. The season is still young, and anything could happen. But this is not the team that a lot of sports writers predicted going to the Super Bowl. Many are jumping off the bandwagon, but not me. I'm a true Falcons fan. The team travels to Seattle for a showdown with the Seattle Seahawks with a 4:00pm kickoff time. Seahawks come into this game with the same record as the Falcons at 1-2. So lets hope to erase that 1-2 start and win this game to go 2-2.
