Okay, so I know this isn't much to share. But I listen to Sirius NFL Radio a lot. And former NFL Scout Pat Kirwan, who is one of the hosts of "Movin the Chains" on SiriusXM, has written a book (pictured left) entitled
Take Your Eye off the Ball. Listening to the radio it never really occurred to me what he was meaning by this phrase until just recently. Whenever I watch the game, I always follow the ball from the QB to whomever he is handing it off or throwing it too. But if you read closely to the title again, he wants you to not watch the ball. For all those non football fans, there are 22 players on the field at one time, 11 on each side (offense/defense). Unlike baseball or basketball where one player can take over the game and win the game by himself alone, it doesn't work that way in football. All 11 guys have to be in sync with the other and know what the others are doing for the play to be run efficiently. So if one player is off, it messes the entire play up. On a football team, players work together as a family, they stick together to get the job done, and have each other's back. Just like a real family member would do for another family member. So I just downloaded this book to my iphone. And without having started reading this book yet, this is what I might think parts of the book might be about. Take a closer look at the other players to watch what they do to make each play work to its fullest. So I'm going to start reading this book, and when football season starts, I'm going to see if I can follow the game by 'taking my eye off the ball."
I will post more updates as I continue reading the book.
