As the Atlanta Falcons (4-3) found out this past Sunday at Ford Field, these Detroit Lions (5-2) are not your same old Detroit Lions of yesteryear. The Falcons did squeak away with the road win, giving the dirty birds a two game winning streak heading into their bye this week. With the Lions starting RB Jahvid Best out with a concussion, the Lions had to look to backup RB Maurice Morris to fill the void. Not much success in that category of the game for the Lions. So at that point the Falcons knew that the Lions O would basically be a one dimensional offense. And yes it was! The Falcons secondary held Lions star WR Calvin Johnson in check all game except for one play. That came off of a QB Matthew Stafford to Johnson for a 57-yard touchdown. Okay, enough about Detroit, I need to start focusing on my team.

The Falcons O and D both had solid games. RB Michael Turner was back to his burner self, carrying the ball 27 times for 122 yards and zero TD's. But that's okay about the zero TD's, QB Matt Ryan took it upon himself to gain the rushing TD as he slivered through the Detriot box for a 1-yard score, while throwing for an 18-yard TD pass to WR Roddy White, the rest of the scoring came off of K Matt Bryant's leg. Ryan finished the contest completing 20 of 34 passes for 218 yards. I've already mentioned the TD's that came from Ryan, and I'm going to just forget about the two INT's that he threw. Final score though, 23-16 in favor of the black helmets. A key accomplishment was set during this game as TE Tony Gonzalez moved up the ladder as the number two man in career reception. He caught four passes in the game to capture 1,104 catches, three more than former Colts WR Marvin Harrison. The all-time leader in receptions is Hall of Fame WR from the San Francisco 49er's, Jerry Rice with 1,549. A long way for Gonzalez to go to catch Rice. Rice's mark will probably stay in place for a long while.
So lets travel back to the beginning of the ballgame as tensions grew between both teams, as that heat carried over into the game. It was a physical battle between both teams. Jawing seemed to carry over as when QB Ryan went down with an apparent knee injury (would later return), and teammates of Ryan said that Lions DT Ndamukong Suh was heard saying bring the cart out, get him off the field. Too me, that's not cool. But I also look at it as the adrenaline is pumping, and things are said between the white lines of the field that wouldn't normally be said. But I also want to say that Suh shouldn't have responded that the Falcons O-line plays dirty. They don't play dirty, it's a physical sport. Both sides just need to move on. Can't do anything about what was said or done now.
Falcons enter this week on their bye. Hopefully all the banged up guys will heal and get plenty of rest. Next contest for the Falcons comes on Sunday, November 6, as the Falcons head to Indy to play the Indianapolis Colts. Kickoff set for 1pm est.
