Head Coach Mike Smith named his starting punter and holder position today, that was left vacant after previous punter Michael Koenen bolted to Falcons division rival Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Well, he didn't come out and say per say. But the job was won by Matt Bosher. Guess it was understood once the other punter, Ken Parrish was released earlier today. Bosher was the Falcons sixth round draft choice this past April in the NFL Draft.
I guess the Falcons management isn't too worried about all the investigations that is taking place at the University of Miami, where Bosher went to college. Then again, he is the punter, and probably didn't even get into all that mess that the Miami Athletic Department got into the past 10 years.
Punters come pretty cheap in today's game, and the Falcons didn't seem too concerned that Koenen left. The Falcons were actually pretty smart for not resigning Koenen, who received a 6-year, 19 million contract with Tampa. All I can say to that is WOW!!! Not even some skilled players get that type of money.
As a reminder, Falcons travel to Pittsburgh to play the Steelers this Saturday, kickoff set for 8pm. The first two preseason games versus Miami and Jacksonville, the Falcons did not gameplan. This game they will. The third game is usually a dress rehearsal for what's to come during the regular season. Falcons will play the starters way into the third quarter, then pull them and play the backups the rest of the game.
